 Online Resource Guide for Aquaculture in Connecticut

 

 

Connecticut is a major producer of farm-raised shellfish, including oysters and hard clams, valued at greater than $16 million in 2005. There are 50 companies producing shellfish and 2 hatcheries in Connecticut. A small, but growing freshwater finfish industry grows mainly trout and baitfish and contributes approximately 5% of the aquaculture revenues to the state. Among the other important commercial or experimental culture species of the state are: Nori (a red seaweed), blue mussels, bay scallops, tilapia, and black seabass.
